3 Ways to Improve the Value of Your Home Without Breaking the Bank

Published by Good News Bob at July 1, 2018

Are you thinking of selling your home soon and want to increase its value? Perhaps you are staying put for a while, but want to grow your biggest investment for the future. Whatever the case, there are plenty of ways to boost your home’s value. Many of them can be quite expensive, especially when you start venturing into the realm of remodeling and renovating. If you have an older home, more than likely it could use a few updates. You’ve probably seen all those shows where people spend thousands upon thousands of dollars updating their home. Well, have no fear. You don’t have to resort to that.

Before you resign to breaking the bank to improve your home’s worth, consider these three economical ways to increase its value.

  1. Enhance the Kitchen

Obviously, a full kitchen remodel would be quite expensive. However, you can do a few things to improve your kitchen without going into debt. For instance, you can replace the kitchen sink and faucets with new pieces and a more modern, attractive design, like a farmhouse sink. You can also add new lighting to brighten up the space. Light is a huge appeal to shoppers and can really upgrade the presence and feel of your home.

Another way to improve the perceived value of your kitchen is by updating your cabinets. Instead of a full replacement, which could set you back financially, consider repainting or restraining your cabinets to make them look new. Also, if you have a few more bucks to spend, invest in matching appliances. Even if your appliances are top notch, if they aren’t the same color it can turn buyers away.

  1. Add Storage Space

Older houses generally have less closet space then newer homes. You could try knocking down some walls and making your closets bigger, but that can get costly. Instead, buy some wire shelf kits or space saving shelves to install in your closet. Not only will it give you more storage while you are living there, it will also make your closets look more modern, spacious, and economical. Also, consider installing some built in bookshelves in strategic places throughout the home like entryways and in the family room. Adding shelves in your garage is also an easy and affordable way to make your home look more space conscious.

If you don’t want to permanently install anything, just place shelf kits and bookshelves in small storage places so it looks more appealing and helps the buyer visualize storage space for themselves.

  1. Boost Curb Appeal

Making a great first impression with everything outside of the home is a sure fire way to pique a buyer’s interest before they every step inside. Although it may seem obvious, make sure your lawn is clean cut and green. Hire a landscaper to install some new grass, if necessary, as well as a few shrubs or small trees. Aside from the lawn, power wash your driveway so it looks brand new. You may also consider power washing the exterior of the house as well. This is a great way to spruce up your house on the outside without repainting the house or doing extensive exterior remodeling.

Do you need some help navigating the home selling process? You’ve probably realized by now that it’s not as simple as it first appears. No worries! We’ve got you covered.  Give us a call and let us help you sell your home and get the most bang for your buck.
